This object is an an explosion poof phone from the late 1940's. What is does is protect humans from that nasty spark that will cause a gun powder factory to go up in smoke. The aluminum housing is insulated and can withstand temperatures -40 below 0 and as high as 140 F. Typically used for volatile environs or your stylish apartment this rare telephone is a great piece of industrial design history.
